Welcome to CIE Australia!

CIE Australia is the Australian National Committee of the International Commission on Illumination, also known as the CIE.  As its name implies, the International Commission on Illumination - abbreviated as CIE from its French title Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage - is an organisation devoted to international cooperation and exchange of information among its member countries on all matters relating to the science and art of lighting.

New CIE Australia Office Bearers

At our recent AGM, Tony Bergen stood down as President after nine years in the role.  An election for the vacated position of President was held, which then created follow-on vacancies in other Executive positions. The final makeup of the Executive for the remainder of the 4-year term (2027) is (newly elected positions are identified as “new”):

President: Steve Coyne (new)
Vice President: Dr Gillian Isoardi (new)
Treasurer: Eric Southgate
Secretary: Dr Wenye Hu (new)
IT Officer: Adrian Cupitt

CIE Australia Lighting Research Conference 2024

The CIE Australia Lighting Research Conference 2024 was held on Tuesday 30th January 2024 at the University of Melbourne.

CIE Quadrennial Session in Ljubljana, September 2023 

Six Australians and two New Zealanders attended the CIE Quadrennial Session in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Click here for a report on the Session.

 

CIE Australia 75th Anniversary Celebration

CIE Australia was formed in 1948 as the Australian National Committee on Illumination (ANCI).  On 24th August 2023 we held a celebration of the 75 years of our existance, including history of the organisation and reflections from CIE Australi luminaries on developments in their fields over the years they have been involved.  More details can be found on the CIE Austrlia 75th Anniversary Celebration page.

Prior to the 75th Anniversary celebration was a CIE Australia Research Students' Workshop, follow up to the workshop held back in February this year.

 

CIE Brochure published

The has produced a brochure which provides a snapshot of who the CIE is and what we do.  The brochure in pdf form can be downloaded here.

 

CIE Australia News

CIE Australia has a news email distribution list which is used to distribute information such as CIE newsletters, announcements of conferences, workshops and new publications, etc.  It is freely open to members and non-members alike.  For more information please see the CIE News page.
